Anderson Cooper started his career as a young journalist.
He worked as an intern with the CIA for two summers while still in college, where he was studying political science. He pursued journalism despite having no official training in the field and describes himself as a “news addict” who has been hooked since he was an embryo. After his initial correspondence job in the early 1990s, he took a year off from reporting and studied Vietnamese at Vietnam National University, Hanoi.
From 19 to 30 April 2021 he served as a guest host on Jeopardy! after the passing of Alex Trebek. He is a freelance writer who has written for a range of publications, including Details magazine.
His autobiography, Dispatches from the Edge, was released in May 2006 by HarperCollins and chronicled his travels and experiences in Sri Lanka, Africa, Iraq, and Louisiana over the previous year. The charity receives a portion of the book’s sales revenues. On 18 June 2006, it topped the New York Times bestseller list.
He co-wrote The Rainbow: A Mother and Son’s Reflection on Life, Love, and Death with Gloria Vanderbilt in 2017. Compiled from a series of emails, the book chronicles their common background, including Vanderbilt’s traumatic upbringing.
