Lily Allen started her career by making some of her vocal recordings public. Her mother thought she was visiting friends in Ibiza, but she remained in Sant Antoni de Portmany. Her major sources of money were Plastic Fantastic and ecstasy. Allen met her long-term manager, George Lamb, in Ibiza.
In 2002, she was included in her father’s band Fat Les’ song “Who Invented Fish & Chips” She worked with music producers to record a demo. She blamed alcohol and Keith Allen’s dad for label rejections. Through her father’s ties, she signed with London Records in 2002.
The label lost interest when the executive who signed her resigned, so she left without publishing her father’s folk tunes. After graduation, she wanted to be a florist, but she switched to music. In 2004, Allen’s manager introduced her to Future Cut. They worked in a modest studio in an office building’s basement.
Regal Recordings offered her $25,000 to produce her debut album before X&Y (Coldplay) and Demon Days (Allen). She then established a MySpace website and shared her recordings.
