Nikolai Patrushev continued to work in the security services, even after the Soviet Union collapsed. From the year 1992 to 1994, Nikolai Patrushev was appointed the task of the Minister of Security of the Republic of Karelia. However, in the year 1994, Nikolai Patrushev was bestowed with the responsibility to become the head of the Directorate of Internal Security of the FSK and thus he was conveyed to Moscow.
In the month of June, in the year 1995, Nikolai Patrushev was appointed as the deputy chief of the Organization and Inspection Department for the FSB. And, from the month of May till August, in the year 1998, Nikolai Patrushev was appointed as the chief of the Control Directorate which belonged to the Presidential Staff.
Next, from the month of August to October, Nikolai Patrushev was appointed as the Deputy Chief of the Presidential Staff.
